Who We Are

The Houston Archeological Society promotes the public exchange of information and ideas about archeology, supports the publication of archeological information and sponsors educational projects and activities about archeology.

HAS members engage in fieldwork, investigating sites that range from the prehistoric times to the historical era. This is a work that has been in progress for over 40 years. Artifacts recovered from these projects are sorted, washed, and analyzed in the laboratory, located on the Rice University campus. In order for members to develop the necessary skill to perform these tasks, workshops, and on-site training sessions are offered. Interpretive reports are written related to fieldwork and other laboratory analysis.

The society publishes a annual journal which contains most of these reports. Special reports are also published occasionally. Each month, he society issues a newsletter. A collection of these journals, special reports, and newsletters are available in the HAS Library for members.

The HAS monthly meeting is held on the second Friday of each month, in M.D. Anderson Hall, St. Thomas University. (map)
